XConfessions at Filmoteca de Catalunya
The year was 2017 – and yet talking publicly about sex for pleasure was somewhat revolutionary
There's something frightening about screening sex on the big screen. As the organizer, you never know how the audience will react – and as a viewer, you are never really sure of how to behave. It's really a peculiar contradiction: going to a place of shared experiences (the cinema) to see something uncomparably private (the sex).
When Erika Lust asked me for a way to strengthen her relationship with her Barcelona followers, hosting a screening at Filmoteca de Catalunya was clearly the perfect choice. We couldn't wait to bring the debate about pornography, sexuality and feminism to the city's most respected cinema institution – and we must say, they were brave to open their doors and let us in with a good amount of cunnilingus close-ups.
After the screening, Erika Lust and the director of Filmoteca, Octavi Martí talked about censorship, erotica and the role of women in cinema production. The session was followed by a Q&A with Erika.
The event was sold out and had outstanding media presence.
